Some Watch Companies That Create Watches Solely for Aesthetics
What is the main reason why people buy a watch? Whether it be a classic mechanical watch, an automatic watch, or even a quartz watch, people buy them specifically for their timekeeping feature (although some people also choose design and other features, but for the most part, people buy them to tell the time).
That being said, although most of the prominent watchmaking companies such as Rolex, Casio, Seiko, Omega, and many others, create watches based on functionality and style, there are some that would only focus on the latter and nothing else.
Today, I want you to meet some of the watchmaking companies whose sole purpose is to only make watches just for the aesthetics.
The first watchmaking brand on the list is a company that has created a pretty interesting watch. Sure, it can help tell the time but it does so quite in a unique way.
HYT has released the SOONOW model which features a timepiece that makes use of small pegs to create the figure of a skull. Now, you might be surprised as to how the timepiece would tell the time, but it is actually pretty interesting.
Instead of making use of hour markers, the watch makes use of a liquid that passes through the tubes that align with the skull. There are words that will indicate what time it is and the liquid will stop on those words to help you tell the time.
Now, from a purely functional standpoint, it just doesn’t make sense because it only tells you the hours (well, the liquid does move slowly until the next hour, but it is a rather crude way of telling the time). But, its design is really something odd and unique and it will certainly be a conversation piece for everyone to talk about.
Now, before anything else, I want you to picture something. Close your eyes and think about a watch that has a rotating mechanism where it tells you what time it is based on the movement of the entire watch face.
You might think that the above-mentioned feature is non-existent as it is impossible, well, I am here to tell you that a certain watchmaking company has actually achieved that.
Ressence may not be a popular brand today, but it certainly should be. Benoit Mintiens, the founder of the said watchmaking brand, is a genius when it comes to watch design.
He has made a watch that looks so amazing that it is truly one of a kind. Most of the Ressence watches have a unique way of telling the time. As Mintiens would put it, his watches tell the time in a more animated way.
The idea behind the watch is for Mintiens to create a timepiece that tells the time in a more organic way. He does this by creating two chambers; the top part is filled with 35 mm of oil and the bottom part has the numerals and indices.
The oil makes it seem that the watch moves in a more animated way and it is really something spectacular to look at.
